Night Eyes
Prior to Night eyes, I had been working for Mukpuddy for 4 years as an animator, but this project was significant for being my debut in a storyboard artist role at the studio. Below are some of my favourite scenes from 3 episodes.
The first episode I got, “The Blurred Witch”, was one I requested to work on, as it was written by a close friend of mine, so I knew the in’s and out’s of his vision and could talk to him about the script for the important story beats to hit. I’m very proud of this one as it’s considered the scariest episode of the show
Coming from an animation role, I was very aware of how the rigs worked, and how to push them vs how to work with their limited style - unfortunately, this made my priority more focused on acting, rather than trying to tell a story clearly through shots - an issue that I have since ironed out.
I had just worked on Breeze in the Clouds, prior to this gig and found the collaborative nature of the video game industry more compelling than the conveyor belt nature of television animated, so my goal was to bring that to mukpuddy. Apparently, storyboarders would just be given a script and told to do boards - Instead, I went and talked to the writer and directors to get any ideas or suggestions they had beforehand - it seemed to influence the pipeline quite a bit, because we later adopted a script breakdowns session for Badjelly.
